This lesson is designed around the learning outcome MS-LS1-7: Develop a model to describe how food is rearranged through chemical reactions forming new molecules that support growth and/or release energy as this matter moves through an organism.

High School Lesson

This lesson is designed around the learning outcome HS-LS2-3: Construct and revise an explanation based on evidence for the cycling of matter and flow of energy in aerobic and anaerobic conditions. This is a short lesson that would be ideal to close a lesson on food webs and energy cycling as a whole.

Composting Update & Green Iowa Introduction

This is a presentation that highlighted the impact the composting program was having, in pounds of food waste and pounds of plastic diverted from the landfill, and announced that the school had won an environmental education award for their efforts. A short video is included with an update on the program. (January 2021)
